Role of Principles in Agile Programme Management (AgilePgM)

The Agile Programme Management (AgilePgM®) provides programme managers (and others involved with major business change initiatives) with a disciplined but flexible approach to the management of transformational organizational change, allowing for iterative and incremental delivery of outputs and benefits. 

Principles play very important role in Agile Programme Management (AgilePgM), as with any other programme management framework. They are the core of Agile Programme Management (AgilePgM) while they support the philosophy:

“an agile programme deliver what is required when it is required - no more no less”.

The five principles in Agile Programme Management (AgilePgM) direct all those involved in the programme, in the attitude they must take and the approach they must adopt in order to ensure a successful outcome of an agile programme. The five principles are:

1. Programme goals are clearly and continuously aligned to business strategy
2. Benefits are realised incrementally and as early as possible
3. Governance focusses on creating a coherent capability
4. Decision-making powers are delegated to the lowest possible level
5. Agile programmes are iterative and have the ability to contain both agile and non-agile projects

Compromising any of the principles undermines the philosophy of Agile Programme Management (AgilePgM) and introduces risk to the successful outcome of the programme..
