Agile Project Management (AgilePM®) is the world’s leading guidance and certification for managing projects using agile tools, techniques and practices.. AgilePM achieves an ideal balance between the standards, rigour and visibility required for good project management, and the fast-pace, change and empowerment provided by agile.

With over 225,000 certified professionals, Agile Project Management (AgilePM) is the fastest growing framework that guides professionals on how to manage their projects with agile mindset.

Agile Business Consortium introduced AgilePM in 2010 (based on DSDM) and in 2014 V2 of AgilePM was released. After 10 years of unparalleled success of AgilePM V2, Agile Business Consortium has unveiled AgilePM3.

Below is a summary of what has and has not changed in Agile Project Management - AgilePM V3:

  • AgilePM3 brings the biggest change for 10 years
  • It is not just a minor tweak, it is a major rework of the product
  • Structure of handbook (from now on called reference book) and default courseware have been updated
  • There is enhanced focus throughout on project outcomes rather than outputs (detailed changes to phrasing and guidance to support this)
  • Post-Project phase is now called the Realisation phase
  • AgilePM3 focuses on the life of the solution beyond delivery instead of just endeavouring on delivering the solution itself
  • Scrum guidance is now essential part of AgilePM
  • Guidance has been added on Agile Leadership based on the Agile Business Consortiums 9 principles
  • Detailed changes to emphasise collaborative and collective project leadership by the:
    • Business Visionary – focused on Vision and business outcomes
    • Solution Architect – focused on the integrity and quality of the solution
    • Project Manager – focused on the project environment, governance etc.
    • Product Owner leading on Product
    • Scrum Master leading on ways of working
  • Scrum is now at the core of the Team-level Product Development
    • Following Scrum Guide 2020 with minor enhancements and tweaks for the project and corporate context
    • Scrum language and explicit philosophy extends into AgilePM
      • Prioritised Requirements List (PRL) is now Sprint Backlog
      • Timebox is now Sprint
      • Empiricism is now explicit rather than implicit
  • Enhanced on Collaboration
    • More on the purpose of communication
    • Less on the mechanics of it, and aligned modern day
  • There is much less focus on artefacts or documents (aka Products
    • Fine details of artefact/ product descriptions are now an appendix
  • The course structure has been changed with the introduction of Scrum Essentials on Day 1 of the training (making foundation training 3 days long for those who are not familiar with Scrum Theory)
  • Practitioner part of the training remains 2 days, as before
  • Risk Management integrated into the AgilePM framework
    • Not a separate process because most risk relates to VUCA
and because agility deals with VUCA, agility deals with risk
    • The exception is ‘approach-based risk’ for which guidance has
      been specifically enhanced
  • Scaling to multi-team projects is a new feature in AgilePM3
    • Enhanced guidance for planning and control in this context
  • Single case study, by Agile Business Consortium, will be spanning across all products (AgilePM, AgileBA, etc)
  • Foundation exam pass marks have been increased to 60% (were 50% for AgilePM V2)
  • Scrum content will be tested as part of Foundation exam
  • AgilePM Practitioner exam has been changed for AgilePM3:
    • 2 hours duration
    • 60 questions per paper
    • Assertion/Reason question format no longer used
    • Pass marks remain unchanged (50%)
  • AgilePM logo and the digital badges remain unchanged
